All states except North Dakota require that you register before voting in an election. Voter registration deadlines vary by state. You can check your state's registration deadlines by visiting your state or local election office website. 

A valid photo ID must be present with you to vote. 

Valid forms of photo ID include: 

• Driver’s license or state ID card issued by state
• Federal, state, county or local government-issued photo ID
• U.S. passport
• Military photo ID card
• Student photo ID card from an educational institution
• Tribal photo ID card
• Local or county issued government ID
• Concealed pistol license

It is recommended that you request an absentee ballot at least two weeks before election day. Request an absentee ballot here: https://www.vote.org/absentee-ballot/ 

You may use voter guides and sample ballots before Election Day to learn who, and what, will be on the ballot. Voter guides and sample ballots include the candidates and the state or local issues up for a vote. You may also bring paper copies of voter guides, sample ballots, and any notes into the voting booth with you on Election Day.

No! You are not required to place a vote for everything on the ballot. You may pick and choose what you decide to vote for. Your votes and ballot will still be valid if partially filled out.
