Stephen McDonald is originally from the UK, but now lives just outside Geneva in Switzerland. He has academic qualifications in physics, electronics, and mechanical engineering. He has been a senior in-house intellectual property and innovation professional for more than 25 years. He has wide-ranging international experience of managing IP teams, external legal counsel, and advising the senior executive teams of start-up, growth-stage, and multinational businesses across a range of technologies including telecommunications, semiconductors, electrical machines, medical devices, and advanced manufacturing technologies. He also has more than 5 years working in venture capital and private equity where he gained insights into investment strategies and M&A.
Stephen has extensive expertise in the development, implementation, and optimization of strategies for effectively acquiring and exploiting new technological solutions and intellectual property gained working in businesses including Texas Instruments, Nokia, Nidec, Japan Tobacco, and Johnson Electric. He is commercially astute with experience of building relationships, combining cross-functional competencies to enable strategic innovation, implementing effective procedures for creating new products and services, and building commercially focused portfolios of IP assets. Stephen leads the advisory services side of Bochner PLLC helping business leaders to effectively protect the results of their innovation investments and to create value from their IP assets.
