Brödermann Jahn
Hamburg, Germany

Hamburg, Germany, July 2021 – The Chinese professor Guiguo Wang (Hong Kong) has recently published with Law Press in China a Chinese translation of the article-by-article commentary on the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts 2016 of professor Eckart Brödermann (Hamburg University, and founder of the law firm Brödermann Jahn). The English version was published in 2018 as an international joint venture of Nomos (Germany) and Wolters Kluwer (Netherlands) and well received in 35 book reviews in 20 jurisdictions around the globe.

The interest in the subject is so high because it is a “hot topic”. In times of global trade, it is outdated to always contract under a national law favoring one party. Rather, it is wise to contract under general principles and neutral rules of law for international commercial contracts as compiled and developed by the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (“UNIDROIT”) between 1971 and 2016. The UNIDROIT Principles have been issued after a vote of the Governing Council representing 63 member states of UNIDROIT. They have been endorsed and recommended by both the U.N. Commission on International Trade Law and by the Union Internationale des Avocats. They provide a regular and proven tool both for international contracting and international dispute resolution and are a MUST-KNOW for international business people and lawyers. The UNIDROIT Principles have been tested in hundreds of arbitral awards and national court decision worldwide.
