​Q & A with Mariano Carricart

Mariano E. Carricart is a business law attorney with the Argentina firm of Badeni, Cantilo, Carricart & Bilbao in Buenos Aires. He graduated from the School of Law and Political Science at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Santa Maria de los Buenos Aires in 1996. He received his master’s degree in International Commercial Law (Banking and Finance) at Nottingham University in Great Britain in 2001. In addition, Carricart graduated from the course on Corporate Finance at the Centre for Advanced Studies of the Law in 2003. He is an Argentine collaborator for the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, and the Oxford University Press.

Q: Before becoming an attorney, what was your first job?

A: A paralegal with a notary public.

Q: What motivated you to pursue a legal career?

A: I always liked the idea to defend a position or support a certain situation. In addition, my grandfather, my father, and my uncle are attorneys.

Q: Who was your chief mentor and how did he or she influence your career?

A: Mainly my father and Gregorio Badeni, my law partner.

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

A: Principles, patience, dedication to the work, and defend the client´s interest.

Q: What is one thing you would like to learn to do?

A: Earn money without working!

Q: What is your proudest career achievement?

A: Becoming a partner in my law firm and hiring people who work for our clients. In terms of work, handling many transactions. All are important.

A: Traveling with my family.

A: “Gladiator,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Martin Fierro,” “Facundo,” and many others.

A: Any beach and the Patagonia.

Q: What are your favorite leisure time pursuits?

A: Spending time on my farm.

Q: What is your favorite famous or inspirational quote?

A: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

Q: Who is on your guests list for the ideal dinner party?

A: Soccer star Lionel Messi, all my family, and my friends.

Q: What are the top three items on your bucket list?

A: Travel to places I do not know. Climb a big mountain. Spend more time with friends and family.
