Oklahoma attorney Fletcher Dal Handley. Jr. was passed the gavel as President of the Oklahoma Association for Justice (OAJ) President in a formal ceremony held on Friday, November 2nd. Fletcher has been a member of the organization for almost 40 years and has been on the OAJ Executive Committee since 2012.  He is a civil justice attorney and founding partner at the Handley Law Center in Oklahoma City.

Handley was also honored as OAJ’s Trial Lawyer of the Year, which recognizes the contribution attorneys have made to the public interest through their significant casework. In 2015, he received the prestigious Tomy D. Frasier Lifetime Achievement Award for his unwavering record of activism and contribution to ensuring the legal rights of working men and women are respected.

Handley received his Juris Doctorate from the OU College of Law in 1979 and was named as Oklahoma’s Outstanding Young Lawyer in 1983.  In 1999 he testified before the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee on behalf of the American Bar Association against a proposed National No-Fault Auto Insurance bill, and served as a Mentor at the National Trial Academy in Reno, Nevada in 2002.  He began his military career in 1966 as an Air Force ROTC Cadet at OU and served on active duty with U.S. Navy Patrol Squadron 11 as a P-3 Orion aircrew member from 1969-1972. He enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1981 and was commissioned into the JAG Corps in 1983. He retired in 2008 as the Assistant State Judge Advocate for Oklahoma and Military Judge.

Handley’s practice is primarily focused on personal injury law, representing individuals injured in auto and truck accidents.

OAJ is a statewide non-profit organization of trial attorneys that are committed to the preservation of the right to trial in an adverse judicial system.  It was first established as the Negligence and Compensation Attorneys Association in 1943, making it the oldest trial lawyer organization in the US.  Formerly known as the Oklahoma Trial Lawyers’ Association, OAJ advocates to protect the jury trial system and has become one of the most influential forces at the State Capitol.
