Schneider Smeltz Spieth Bell LLP
Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio – March 2022 – Schneider Smeltz Spieth Bell, a full-service law firm with experience dating back to 1867, is proud to announce that M. Elizabeth Monihan has been recognized in Crain’s 2022 Notables in Law. The attorneys selected are a collection of diverse, forward-thinking individuals whose belief in doing things the right way transcends their practices.

Elizabeth Monihan is a partner in the Schneider Smeltz Spieth Bell LLP Trusts and Estates Practice Group.  Her practice is focused on wealth transfer planning for individuals and fiduciaries, including income, gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer tax planning, trust and estate administration, multi-generational family issues, retirement planning, succession planning for closely-held businesses and charitable planning.

Monihan is a trailblazer as she was the first female president of the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland. Currently, she is Chair of the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Law Section and its Council. The Council studies all aspects of the law in this field, determines where there is a need for change, and proposes legislative solutions. Last Fall, she testified on behalf of the OSBA before the Ohio House of Representatives’ Civil Justice Committee in opposition to an Electronic Wills legislative proposal which is not in the best interests of Ohio citizens.

Lisa is a frequent author and speaker on a variety of legal topics relating to estate planning, trusts and estates, including inheritance rights of children born through assisted reproductive technologies. She serves on the editorial board of the Probate Law Journal of Ohio and on the OSBA’s planning committee for its annual Marvin R. Pliskin Advanced Probate and Estate Seminar. She helps to identify topics and speakers that will inform and inspire the best and brightest in the Estate Planning world about current legal issues and trends.

In addition to her accomplishments in the legal world, Monihan serves as Secretary on The Union Club Foundation board, and she sits on the development committee for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs. She believes her biggest contribution to the community is by mentoring young attorneys and helping them build their skills and confidence.
