Covid-19. How did the world get blindsided by such a treacherous and destructive enemy that just seemed to have come out of nowhere? This article is a continuation of the conversation we started last week in the first issue of The Primerus Weekly. To review that article, click here.

The most important thing about this series of articles is that we will rely only upon proven and uncontroverted facts that would meet the highest standards of admissible evidence in a court of law. We want Primerus to be the place where people can go for important information that stands firmly on the principle that “The Truth Matters.” There is no room here for “alternative facts” or some “version of the truth.”  There is also no room for politics or ulterior motives that might tend to mislead the public by giving them false hope.

Though confinement in our homes is getting a little old after around 30 days, for everyone in the family, we know that it is the best thing we can do for the health and wellbeing of us all. We are dealing with an extremely dangerous enemy, almost like an alien from outer space, that lingers stealthy in the bodies of the innocent who can be our family members, our friends, our partners, our employees, our neighbors and those we encounter every day in our communities, at Starbucks, the laundromat, the grocery store, the gas station and everywhere.

The only effective weapon we have today is “space.” Space between each other of at least six feet – unless we are wearing protective clothing that will not allow the virus to penetrate. The enemy can only grow and multiply if it can jump, via respiratory discharge droplets, into the body of another that comes within six feet of it or touches an object where it is resting, ready to attack. If it had a sinister mind, it would be counting on our impatience and our inability to endure the loss of our normal way of life. We should not be lured into a false sense of security when there still is not adequate testing of the population to identify and isolate the sick, a cure for the disease, or a vaccine to prevent it. If you contract the disease, you are essentially left to your own immune system to fight it off.

These are the uncontroverted facts, beyond a reasonable doubt, at the present time. If you depart from the social distancing and the hygiene practices recommended by the medical experts, you are taking some risks depending upon many factors including your age, health and the extent to which you depart from these guidelines.
