Matt Shwom manages defense litigation involving a wide array of clients in general liability matters, including vehicular negligence, supplementary under-insured motorist and uninsured motorist claims, premises liability, civil assault and property damage claims.  He has handled all aspects of defense litigation, from inception through trial, in the New York State Supreme Courts for New York City and Long Island.  Matt has tried a number of cases to verdict.

Prior to joining Lewis Johs, he was associated with a Long Island law firm concentrating on the defense of personal injuriy actions.  He also worked as an intern for both the Honorable Samuel Freedman in the New Haven, Connecticut Superior Court and the Kings County Law Department.

Matt was admitted to the bar of the State of Connecticut in 1998 and to the bar of the State of New York in 1999.  He also is admitted to the United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.  Matt is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association.

Matt received his Juris Doctor Degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law, cum laude, in 1998.  He also served as an associate editor for the Quinnipiac Law Review.  In 1991, Matt received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York, Buffalo State College.

Regarding community involvement, Matt serves on the  Board of Directors for the Frank J. Becker Scholarship Fund.  Additionally, in 2001 he received the Lynbrook Youth Athletic Association Distinguished Service Award.  In 2004 and 2007 Matt received citations from the Nassau County Legislature in recognition of his efforts as a volunteer and coach for a local sports program.
