Poughkeepsie, NY-  Family Services has announced that Richard A. Mitchell, Esq., of Poughkeepsie, New York, has been named board chair succeeding Paul Haering.

Mitchell, a partner with the law firm Iseman, Cunningham, Riester & Hyde LLP and lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, formerly served on the board of directors for Family Services.

Brian Doyle, CEO for Family Services, remarked, “We are extremely fortunate to have Rick Mitchell leading our board. Beyond his vast community services experience, Rick is clearly passionate about our agency’s mission and ongoing success.”

Rick has long been an active community volunteer. In addition to serving in leadership roles with Family Services and United Way of Dutchess County, he has served as president of the Community Foundation of Dutchess County and been a board member of Vassar Brothers Hospital Foundation, American Heart Association, Bardavon 1869 Opera House, and Dutchess County Boy Scout Council.

His legal practice is focused on health care, banking, bankruptcy, workouts and commercial litigation, and corporate and transactional matters. His health care practice includes representation of physicians with respect to practice formation, choice of entity, governance, employment agreements, and regulatory compliance. His banking and workout practice involves representation of banks and corporations as lenders, in Chapter 7, 11, and 13 cases throughout New York.

Part of the community since 1879, Family Services has been making a difference in people’s lives for over 135 years. Family Services provides programs and services in the Hudson Valley such as: Youth Services, Comprehensive Support for Victims of Domestic Violence and Other Crimes through the Center for Victim Safety and Support, Forensic Services Substance Abuse Prevention and Family Education; all designed to strengthen individuals, families and community.

A key program of Family Services is the Family Partnership Center, a 100,000 + square foot center in Poughkeepsie where currently 19 not-for-profit and related organizations are brought together in partnership for the purpose of collaboration toward a unified approach to human services and building community.

The mission of Family Services is to help families and individuals help themselves through direct services, collaboration, and advocacy. Last year over 6000 children, adults, and families benefited from Family Services programs. Family Services has programs in Dutchess and Ulster counties, as well as an affiliate, Hudson Valley Mental Health which provides behavioral health services throughout Dutchess and Ulster Counties.
