Primerus Chair of the International Arbitration and Litigation Practice Group, Professor Dr. Eckart Brödermann, partner of Brödermann Jahn, chairs one of the first (if not the first) Chinese Arbitrations with three foreign Arbitrators.

This multibillion dollar CIETAC (China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission) arbitration in Shanghai appears to be the first CIETAC arbitration ever to have three foreign arbitrators.

Professor Dr. Brödermann has been specializing in various aspects of Chinese related legal matters for more than 30 years. In order to create an arbitration alternative for tailor-made Chinese arbitration outside China, jointly with the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and law firms from around the globe, Professor Dr. Brödermann set up CEAC (the Chinese European Arbitration Centre) in Hamburg (Germany) on behalf of the Hamburg Bar Organization in 2008. Eckart now manages this jointly with a Chinese Professor and members of staff from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

In June 2013, Eckart published a Law Review Article on CEAC in the Journal of International Arbitration Vol. 30, which may be a helpful tool when contemplating a CEAC clause in China related contracts. In April 2013, Eckart was invited to chair the finals of the prestigious Willem C. Vis Moot Competition in Vienna, in which 2,500 students from 192 universities in 69 countries participated.

During his LL.M.-Thesis at Harvard University in 1983, Eckart analyzed Chinese-related arbitration cases (at that stage limited to the maritime industry). Professor Brödermann also teaches international arbitration, including Chinese arbitration, at Hamburg University.
