Deanene Thornwell

Deanene Thornwell is a Senior Associate practicing in the Trucking, Retail & Hospitality, and Criminal Defense Practice Groups.

Deanene graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in History from South Carolina State University. Afterwards, she obtained her Juris Doctor from the Joseph F. Rice School of Law at the University of South Carolina.

Prior to joining Collins & Lacy, Deanene worked in criminal law, serving as both prosecution and defense. She also served state agencies, such as the South Carolina Department of Social Services, which provided her with unique insight into government operations that enhanced her attention to detail.

After exploring these fields, Deanene chose to enter private practice to maximize the application of the experience she had acquired. She now brings a mastery of complex litigation and understanding of the interplay between regulatory bodies and the industries they oversee to the Trucking, Retail & Hospitality, and Criminal Defense sectors of Collins & Lacy.

From 2021 to 2024, Deanene continued advocating for clients through her involvement in the Lawyer’s Fund for Client Protection. Outside of work, Deanene dedicates her time to volunteering with the Junior League of Columbia and has been involved with Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. She additionally enjoys going for runs and baking in her spare time.
