Dunlap Codding is pleased to announce that Scott E. McPherson has joined the firm, Of Counsel. McPherson will practice in all areas of intellectual property, with an emphasis on managing IP portfolios, negotiating complex intellectual property transactions and agreements, and drafting and prosecuting patent applications. Prior to attending law school, Scott gained significant field experience as a patent specialist and contract administrator at Nanogen, Inc., and as scientist at the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Sciences (TPIMS) and at Trega Biosociences.

His presence on the West Coast extends our reach.” In addition to his work as a patent specialist, contract administrator, and scientist, Scott has substantial experience as a patent attorney, having worked previously at Townsend, Townsend & Crew and at DLA Piper.

As an attorney, McPherson’s service to clients has involved technologies ranging from mechanical (knives/sheaths, spinal implants, orthotics) to compositions (skin peels, personal lubricants, ophthalmic treatments, vaccines, adjuvants) to devices (demineralized bone fillers and drug delivery systems) to various diagnostic assays (related to pregnancy, STDs, bacteria, viruses, drugs of abuse, or bioterror agents). His work has also included RNA/DNA separation and DNA Analysis techniques and related instrumentation, as well as complex medical diagnostics (telemetry, sensors, cardiac and glucose monitoring systems, iontophoresis, diagnostic assays, and compositions including pharmaceutical, skin-care, ophthalmic compositions, and immunodiagnostics).

McPherson received his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law and received an M.S. in Public Health and Toxicology from Sand Diego State University. He received his B.A. in Biology and History from the University of California at San Diego. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and is admitted to the California Bar.
