Paul Russell is the senior partner at Russell Advocaten, a full-service law firm in Amsterdam. He has over 35 years of experience in corporate and commercial law, family law and art law. Paul is an expert litigator. His clients include international companies, art dealers and auction houses, museums and well-known artists and collectors. As a well-established expert in the field of art law, he has handled several complicated art restitution cases.

Corporate clients praise him for his strategic out-of-the-box thinking and commercial expertise. As a trusted advisor, he provides legal assistance in the day-to-day operations of many entrepreneurs. Paul does this in a persistent way, always looking for practical and immediately applicable solutions.

Besides his decades of experience as a legal professional, he looks back on a long political career as a member of the Dutch Senate. For many years, he was a speaker on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Development Cooperation.

Paul Russell is Honorary Consul-General of Luxembourg and has been vice-president of the Consular Corps in Amsterdam since 2006. He also devotes a significant amount of his time to charitable work. He is the chairman of the Roman Catholic Foundation for the Promotion of Welfare Work and a board member of several other charitable organizations. In addition, Paul Russell is a member of the Holland America Friendship Foundation recommendations committee.

He has co-authored the publications “Regelen der Kunst” (Rules on Art), “Unjustified Enrichment: A comparative study of the law on restitution” and “Dealing with the Dutch: An Introduction to Dutch Business Law”.

Paul received his LL.M. in Civil Law from VU University Amsterdam in 1976.

He is fluent in Dutch, English, French and German.
