Sadly, 795 million people - or one in nine people in the world - do not have enough to eat. Primerus now has 175 firms and has become a truly global group of lawyers and law firms. As many of you already know, one of the Primerus Six Pillars is Community Service. Following the 2016 Primerus Global Conference, a small group of members got together to discuss ways Primerus collectively could make a bigger difference. As a result of the time and energy of that small group, and at their direction, Primerus is organizing its members to combat local and global hunger. Primerus has declared "Primerus Fights World Hunger" as a global community service initiative.
We are aiming for 100% participation by Primerus members with both initiatives below:
ORGANIZE A LOCAL FOOD DRIVE
Local Food Drive - Organize a food drive between now and October 2018 to collect food and canned goods to be donated to a local food bank in your city.
Step 1 - Designate someone in your office to organize, collect and donate contributions from the members of your firm
Step 2 - Post the attached flyer around your office
Step 3 - Let Primerus know
- Who your office designee is;
- Which local organization you are donating to; and
- How much food (in lbs.) was collected and donated during your food drive
BILLABLE HOURS FOR HUNGER
Global Hunger Assistance - Commit to making a contribution to the UN's World Food Programme in the equivalent of at least one "billable hour"
Step 1 - Understand the Dire Global Need for Support
We seek Primerus member assistance to take the concept of community service to the broader global community to address a matter of urgency to help prevent some twenty million people from starving to death in the coming months. The world produces more than sufficient amounts of food to support our large global population. Unfortunately, droughts, conflicts with resulting refugee flight as well as internal challenges in various countries have led and periodically continue to lead to dire situations where tragedies eclipsing the ravages of war loom without the global community responding generously. We are in such a situation at the present time. The United Nations has faced two major food crises in the last decade before the current one and has developed an annual review of serious challenges. The World Food Programme is the international arm that delivers food and assistance around the world. Click here for the link to the current crisis alert for South Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia and Yemen. Our hope is that in the coming weeks and months, Primerus members can help alleviate the challenge the people of these countries face. * * * If each of the 175 firms contributed $600, our collective action would exceed $100,000.* * * In fact, the World Food Programme can feed a family for a month for just $75; $15 feeds a child for a month.

Step 3 - Visit The World Food Programme website and make a donation. Donations may be tax deductible. (Click here for additional tax information) 93% of funds received go to those in need (7% for administration, etc.). Please help us help those whose very lives depend on the global community's assistance at this time.
Step 4 - Report to Primerus. We ask each firm to send Primerus a note on contributions you and your colleagues make. Individual contributions will be kept confidential, only aggregate dollar amounts of the total Primerus-wide donation will be shared. Updates will be shared at each Global Conference.
