Alan Peterson has been with Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun since 1987. A South Dakota native, he received his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of South Dakota, an MA from Northern Illinois University and a BS with honors from Northern State College.

Alan is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota (former Chair, Worker’s Compensation Committee and Negligence and Tort Law Committee), American Bar Association, South Dakota Defense Lawyers Group, South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association and the National Panel for Construction Dispute Resolution Services. He is an “AV” rated attorney, the highest rating given from Martindale-Hubbell and is recognized in “Best Lawyers in America” for Administrative / Regulatory Law, Arbitration, Employment Law, Insurance Litigation, Labor and Employment Litigation, Mediation, Personal Injury Litigation and Workers’ Compensation Law, “Great Plains Super Lawyers” and “Chambers and Partners” for Labor & Employment Law and Personal Injury Litigation.

Alan’s practice involves service as general counsel to the two largest rural electric cooperatives in South Dakota, as well as an active litigation practice in all phases of tort and employment law. Alan’s experience and expertise serve him well, as he is often called up to act as a mediator. Alan also represents adoptive parents in assisting them with finalizing their family arrangements.
