Michelle Byers is an associate at Hermes, Netburn, O’Connor & Spearing, P.C. who concentrates her practice in the areas of insurance coverage, litigation, personal injury product liability, reinsurance and toxic tort. Prior to joining Hermes Netburn, Michelle was an associate at a Boston Litigation firm where she handled a broad array of complex civil litigation matters, primarily related to product liability and insurance defense.

Before becoming an attorney, Michelle designed, produced and presented demonstrative exhibits to help trial juries across the country digest and understand important evidence. Michelle’s experience includes using a wide range of video services related to the legal industry such as video depositions, digitized video with time-stamped scrolling text and other trial technical support tools. Michelle’s broad legal and technical background deepens her ability to communicate effectively, helping clients work through complex cases efficiently.

While attending law school, Michelle served as the Managing Editor of the New England Law Review. In this role, she oversaw a staff of over 60 individuals and was responsible for successfully publishing 19 student articles over the course of her tenure.

Representative Experience:

Legnos v. Flow International Corporation
Successfully moved for summary judgment on behalf of exhibition facility on third party indemnification claims asserted by product manufacturer.

Zeolla v. Ford Motor Company

Assisted in obtaining defense verdict for a motor vehicle manufacturer of a SUV in which the plaintiff alleged that the absence of fixed as opposed to moveable tempered glass windows and a rollover activated side curtain airbag in the third row seating positions rendered the SUV unreasonably dangerous and defective and that these defects were the cause of her husband’s ejection from the vehicle and death.

Stanley v. Garda CL New England, Inc.

Obtained dismissal of lawsuit against vehicle lessor by applying the Graves Amendment to a personal injury claim alleging motor vehicle negligence on the part of the driver.
