Ms. Melissa Culp first started at the firm as a Summer Associate in 2008. After graduating cum laude and Order of the Coif from Loyola Law School in 2009, where she served as the Chief Research Editor of the Entertainment Law Review, Ms. Culp joined the firm as a Litigation Associate. She was recently promoted to Partner in early 2018.

Ms. Culp’s practice encompasses all stages of civil litigation representing public entities, individuals and corporate defendants in state and federal courts. Her practice areas include general torts, civil rights, police liability, premises liability, personal injury, defense of ADA-related claims, and real estate law.

Ms. Culp is responsible for managing all phases of active litigation files, including pre-litigation claims, responding to complaints, preparing and responding to written discovery, drafting and arguing discovery and dispositive motions in court, settlement negotiations, taking and defending depositions, assisting in trial preparation, appearing for and arguing motions, and researching and preparing post-trial motions and appellate briefing. Ms. Culp was part of the trial team that defended a high profile class action involving novel issues of procedural due process brought against the Orange County District Attorney’s Office in Vasquez, et al. v. Rackauckas, et al., Case No. SACV 09-1090-VBF (RNBx). Ms. Culp has had exceptional success disposing of cases by way of pre-trial motions for summary judgment. By way of illustration, she successfully disposed of all federal Constitutional claims by summary judgment in a wrongful death case, as published in Estate of Velasco v. City of Fontana, 2012 WL 13065650 (C.D. Cal. Dec. 21, 2012); and Estate of Velasco v. City of Fontana, 2012 WL 13065671(C.D. Cal. Dec. 21, 2012). She has worked on numerous appeals in both state and federal courts and obtained a published opinion favorable to the County of Orange in Powell v. County of Orange, 197 Cal. App. 4th 1573 (Cal. App. 4th Dist. 2011).

When not working, Melissa enjoys spending time with her husband and children, attending UCLA sporting events, and spending time outdoors.
