James Elliott is a tax specialist in the Trusts and Estates Practice Group, where he represents business owners, corporate executives, and other wealthy individuals and their families. Jim specializes in the tax issues faced by high net-worth individuals and their families, including succession planning, effective use of insurance in estate planning, income tax and gift tax planning, and litigation support. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York. He is also a Certified Public Accountant licensed in New Jersey and Ohio.
Jim was previously a tax partner with another law firm in Northern NJ, where he specialized in private wealth matters. Prior to that, he was with Merrill Lynch at its world headquarters, where he served as a Wealth Strategist for the Northeast Private Bank and Investment Group, and was the director of its Executive Tax Practice. Prior to Merrill Lynch, he was a Tax Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in its Florham Park, New Jersey and Princeton, New Jersey offices (he was also Partner-In-Charge of the Princeton office). Jim served as immediate past chair of the Tri-County Scholarship Program, a scholarship program for disadvantaged students in the Passaic, Sussex, and Morris Counties of New Jersey.
He received a B.A. from Kenyon College, an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago, and his J.D. with honors from Seton Hall Law School.
