Trauger & Tuke (Nashville, TN) is pleased to announce that the Metropolitan Historical Commission in Nashville, Tennessee will present the annual Achievement Award to Robert D. Tuke for his leadership and dedication to the preservation of Nashvilles historic places, including the once-endangered Union Station, which is now a resort hotel with a 5 star rating. In addition, Mr. Tuke helped design and develop Historic Nashvilles conservation easement program, which was first launched in 1982. Since that time, Mr. Tuke has prepared all of Historic Nashvilles conservation easements and has participated in a number of other historic preservation transactions.
Bob Tuke is a partner in the law firm Trauger & Tuke and is an Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt University School of Law. He received his education from the University of Virginia (B.A.) and Vanderbilt University (J.D.). He was an active duty Marine officer from 1969-1973 and served in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry in combat, among other decorations. Mr. Tuke is the author of articles on securities, ethics, municipal finance, health care, and adoption law. He is a Fellow and past President of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. He served on the Tennessee Adoption Law Study Commission and was a principal draftsman of Tennessees Adoption Code. Mr. Tuke served as Chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party in 2005-2006.
Mr. Tuke has played an active role in historic preservation in Nashville for over thirty years. He joined the board of Historic Nashville, Inc. (HNI) in 1979. He has served the organization in several leadership roles and was instrumental in the groups reorganization in 2006. In the early 1980s, Mr. Tuke served as lead attorney in the suit against the General Services Administration of the United States (GSA) for failing to restore or stabilize the vacant and condemned Union Station, a property the GSA had acquired in 1978. Legal action, testimonies before the U.S. House Committee on Public Works, and a petition containing over 20, 000 signatures helped convince the GSA to deed Union Station to Metro Government and provide for fumigation and stabilization services, and $7 million in funding, thereby saving the historic landmark from certain demolition. Mr. Tukes leadership in historic preservation also reaches statewide. He helped design and develop HNIs conservation easement program, which HNI first launched in 1982. Since that time, Mr. Tuke has prepared all of HNIs conservation easements and has participated in a number of other historic preservation transactions. HNI now holds easements protecting sixteen historic properties in Nashville and Davidson County.
Mr. Tuke is Chairman of the Tennessee State Veterans Homes Board. He is past President of Historic Nashville, Inc. and past Chairman of CommunityNashville and continues to serve on both Boards of Directors. He also serves on the Boards of Directors of Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation and Tennessee Environmental Council, and he serves on the Executive Committee of Miriams Promise adoption agency.
