Rhodes Tucker joins several Southwest Florida businesses in planning for a “growing” cause
“Movember” is a movement to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues during the month of November. Accomplished through various fundraising events nationwide, these events are all centered around a staple in men’s fashion, the moustache, or more precisely growing a moustache.
The funds raised will be used to support research into prostate cancer and other cancers that effect men. Funds will be directed locally to 21st Century C.A.R.E. and nationally to programs including the Movember Foundation; the Prostate Cancer Foundation; LIVESTRONG; and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
For Abby Services In-Home Care for Seniors, this is the third year participating in “Movember.” They became involved when the owner of Abby Services was diagnosed with prostate cancer himself. In an effort to reach a broader audience, Abby Services have formed partnerships with Rhodes Tucker, Direct Care Home Health, Delta Family Counseling, and Hodges University. Other joint ventures are in the works, including The Florida Everblades and Harley Davidson of Fort Myers. The excitement surrounding this series of events is tremendous.
Together, the group is collaborating to bring the largest fundraising and awareness event for men related health issues to Southwest Florida. Planning is already in the works for a kickoff party in October called “Mustaches and Miniskirts” that will be open to the public in November. The kickoff party will then be followed by a series of events leading up to the big fund “Razor” called “Trash the Stache”, which will also be held in November. While the official website Movember.com does not go live for 2012 until September, you can follow their progress on Facebook by “Liking” “Mustache Me SWFL.”
Scott Strachan with Abby Services encourages any individual, group, or business to get involved, stating “We really want to see our area well represented this year. Once Movember USA updates their web site for 2012 we will have a network called Mustache Me SWFL. You'll be able to register a team, or as an individual under this network viaMovember.com. Our goal is to see how much money SWFL can raise for this special cause! So STAY TUNED!”
