NAFTA

With a tradition of excellence, for over 50 years the firm of Stewart and Stewart has helped clients prevail in a complex and ever-changing global marketplace by providing innovative solutions to the challenges of international trade.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is an agreement signed by the governments of Canada, Mexico, and the United States, creating a trilateral trade bloc in North America. The agreement came into force on January 1, 1994. It superseded the Canada United States Free Trade Agreement between the U.S. and Canada.

NAFTA has two supplements: the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC) and the North American Agreement on Labor Cooperation (NAALC).

Our expansive knowledge of trade agreements and U.S. trade laws enables us to help our clients utilize the benefits provided under trade agreements and address problems as they arise.  Stewart and Stewart provides support to individual companies, trade associations, and trade coalitions as they navigate international trade rules and face the opportunities and challenges presented by a global economy.

The NAFTA countries are all participating in the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement.  Congress will be evaluating the TPP Agreement in 2016.
