Bivins & Hemenway, P.A., believes it is critical for its attorneys and staff to become actively engaged in their community. Over the last few months, the firm and its personnel have deepened their involvement in a number of civic, professional, and charitable organizations in the greater Tampa Bay Area. A few of these achievements are referenced below:
The firm is proud to announce that it has been named legal counsel to the Greater Brandon Community Foundation, Inc. (the “Foundation”), a high-profile 501(c)(3) charitable foundation dedicated to acting as a leader, catalyst, and resource for philanthropy in Eastern Hillsborough County area. Through its numerous fundraising activities, the Foundation continues to raise funds for, and distribute them among, local charities.
The firm has become a partner in the newly organized Eastern Hillsborough Economic Development Counsel, whose mission is to work with and encourage businesses interested in potentially relocating their businesses into Hillsborough County.
Robert W. Bivins has been named First Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Campo Family YMCA in Valrico, Florida, and will become Chairman on January 1, 2009. In the meantime, Mr. Bivins currently serves as Chairman of the South Shore Task force of the Campo YMCA, which is charged with the task of analyzing and making recommendations to the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA on the siting of a new YMCA branch facility in the South Shore area of Hillsborough County. He also serves as Chairman of the volunteer committee overseeing Camp Christina, the Tampa association’s 60-acre youth camp.
The firm is proud to announce that John M. Hemenway graduated from the Leadership Brandon leadership-development program on May 28, 2008. Leadership Brandon is a program sponsored by the Brandon Chamber of Commerce to both educate members of the professional community about critical community needs in Hillsborough County and to engage those same professionals in solving the challenges of the future. Participants are selected by a process sponsored by the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and former graduates of the program.
Robert W. Bivins has been named Co-Chair of the Winthrop-Bloomingdale Area Council. The Council is sponsored by the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and is an association of businesses based along the rapidly growing Winthrop-Bloomingdale corridor of Brandon and Valrico designed to promote business retention, growth, communication, and cooperation along the corridor.
William J. Hart, Director of Business Development for the firm, has been named Rib Competition Chairman of the first annual “Rock, Rib, and Ride” community event being sponsored by the Greater Brandon Community Foundation, Inc. The event, being scheduled for the Florida State Fairgrounds in October 2008 is targeted to raise over $250,000.00 for local charities in its first year and to increase that goal annually.
