Houston, Texas, September 20, 2017The Houston Gulf Coast Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the leading global organization focused on Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research, has announced it will honor Bob and Linda Brown at its upcoming 2018 Promise Ball.

Bob and Linda Brown became involved with the Houston Gulf Coast Chapter of JDRF in the fall of 2006 starting their own JDRF One Walk Team, “I Hate Needles”, after their son, Robert, was diagnosed with T1D at the age of nine. In 2008, Bob served as the corporate chair for JDRF One Walk Houston and has also participated in the annual Tucson Ride to Cure Diabetes in Arizona alongside other cyclists riding up to 100 miles alongside Tucson’s beautiful mountain vistas through the Sonoran Desert, home to countless giant saguaro cacti. Linda has been extensively involved with the organization and served on the JDRF Houston Gulf Coast Chapter Board of Directors from 2009-2015. She was named the Houston Mentor Chair in 2014, has been a member of the Corporate Development and family JDRF One Walk team committees, assisted with the annual gala and golf tournament, and has co-chaired Type One Nation, an educational and inspirational daylong summit in Houston, for the past two years.

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on Type 1 Diabetes research. Each year, the Houston Gulf Coast Chapter hosts several events to garner support and awareness for T1D. Its annual gala is heavily attended and features JDRF’s signature ‘Fund A Cure’, an opportunity to hear from those living with T1D and make a 100% tax-deductible contribution.

“We are proud to honor Bob and Linda Brown for their longstanding commitment to JDRF,” Executive Director Rick Byrd said. “With their support, our organization continues to successfully thrive and positively impact the T1D community.”
