Before joining Trauger & Tuke in 1997, Robert Brandt served as a judge of the Chancery Court in Nashville from 1976 to 1996, and as a senior judge from 1996 to 1997.  Most of the cases he presided over were commercial disputes and public policy cases involving the state government and Nashville’s Metropolitan Government.  He was in private practice from 1970 to 1976 and served as an Assistant District Attorney in Nashville from 1966 to 1970.

Mr. Brandt practices primarily in alternative dispute resolution.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators.  He is a member of the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association.  He is on the Employment, Commercial, and Complex Case Panels of the American Arbitration Association.  He is on the Panel of Distinguished Neutrals and the Entertainment Law Panel for the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution.  He is an arbitrator and mediator for the National Association of Securities Dealers, is certified by the Tennessee Supreme Court as a civil and family mediator, and is an approved mediator in the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of Tennessee.

Mr. Brandt also serves as a Special Deputy Receiver on behalf of the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.

Mr. Brandt has served as President of the Tennessee Judicial Conference, as Nashville’s Presiding Judge, and as chair of Nashville’s Justice Information System.  He also served as a member of the Tennessee Judicial Council and as a delegate to the 1971 Tennessee Constitutional Convention.  He was an adjunct faculty member at Vanderbilt Law School from 1977 to 1999.

Mr. Brandt has been active in a number of civic and religious organizations, including Christ Church Cathedral, the University School of Nashville, the Tennessee Historical Society, the Metropolitan Historical Commission, Greenways for Nashville, and The Land Trust for Tennessee.  He was Chairman and Founder of the Tennessee Chapter of the Sierra Club, and received the Conservationist of the Year Award from the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association in 1974.  He is the author of numerous articles and books on hiking, the outdoors, and travel, including Compass American Guide: Tennessee (2001), Middle Tennessee on Foot: Hikes in the Woods and Walks on Country Roads (1998), Touring the Middle Tennessee Backroads (1995), and Tennessee Hiking Guide (1982).
