After joining FI&C in 1994, Melinda took time off to be a full-time mother to her two children, Mike and Gwyneth. Melinda returned to practice with the firm on a part-time basis in 2000. Since that time, Melinda has successfully balanced her professional life with her family life, actively participating in complex litigation matters with the firm while at the same time maintaining an active role in her children’s life and education.
Melinda recently had a summary judgment motion granted and affirmed on appeal in favor of one of the firm’s most prominent clients on a former employee’s claims of wrongful discharge in violation of public policy and constructive discharge. She also successfully defended an expert witness who was sued by an adverse party for spoliation of evidence based on the expert’s testimony at trial. In addition, Melinda was the principle scrivener of a motion to dismiss a class action complaint based on alleged violations of the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act that was recently granted by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
Melinda was valedictorian of her high school class in Martinsville, Indiana, and she graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1990 (B.A. History and Spanish). She obtained her juris doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in Coral Gables, Florida in 1994, where she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the University of Miami Law Review. Melinda is admitted to practice in Ohio and before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio. She is also a member of the American, Ohio and Dayton Bar Associations and of Phi Beta Kappa.
Melinda lives in Miamisburg, Ohio with her husband Don (also an attorney with the firm) and her two children.
