Laura Belendez-Ferrero, Esq.
Is a Member of Ferraiuoli LLC. Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero’s main areas of practice are civil and commercial litigation, focusing on intellectual property, trademarks, copyright matters and distribution disputes. Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero has argued before the First Circuit Court of Appeals in the cases of Mercado–Alicea v. P.R. Tourism Co., 396 F.3d 46 (1st Cir. 2005) and Estate of Roberto Hevia v. Valcarce, et al. (1st Cir. 2009). She has also participated in several trademark infringement cases both in federal and state courts representing clients such as Allergan (“Botox”); Borinquen Biscuit Corp. (“Galletas Ricas”); Doral Financial Corp. (“Doral”); Servimetal, Inc. (“Zincor”); Doctor’s Associate (“Subway”); Valentín Talavera (“El Jibarito”); Roberto Pannefleck; Preferred Health Inc. (“Preferred”) and the Walter Mercado trademark infringement case.
Ms. Beléndez-Ferrero supervises the federal and Puerto Rico trademark registrations, actively participating in opposition and trademark proceedings both before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in the United States Patent and Trademark Office and also in the Puerto Rico State Department.
She also participated in a precedent copyright infringement case which involved a local television producer, Mr. Sunshine Logroño. TMTV Corp. v. Mass Productions, Inc., 345 F. Supp. 2d 196 (D.C. Puerto Rico 2004). Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero has been involved in First and Fourteenth Amendment cases before the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, where she has attended civil jury trials and various injunction hearings. Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero has also participated in the active litigation of Law 75 cases, that is the Distribution and Representation Law Seminar. She also has lectured and consulted with advertising agencies regarding copyright and trademark infringement in the media.
Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Puerto Rico in 1996 and a Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from the Inter American University School of Law in 1999. Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero obtained a Law Masters Degree in Intellectual Property on May 2002 from the George Washington University School of Law. Her relevant course work during this time included, among others, Licensing Intellectual Property Rights, Cyberspace Law, Electronic Commerce Law and Antitrust Law. She has also participated in continued legal education programs, like the Annual Intellectual Property Law conference sponsored by the American Bar Association, Intellectual Property Section.
Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Ms. Beléndez–Ferrero is a member of the International Trademark Association, a member of the Emerging Issues Committee at the International Trademark Association, Puerto Rico Intellectual Property Commission, American Intellectual Property Law Association, New York State Bar Association and the Puerto Rico Bar Association.
