Guy R. Colson is a member and chair of the firm’s Litigation Group, with a focus on insurance defense, insurance coverage, professional liability, personal injury and civil litigation. He previously served as the firm’s managing partner. Guy represents his clients with a depth of legal knowledge honed over 30 years of experience handling challenging litigation and business matters in state and federal court. He is a seasoned litigator with a notable record of successful trials before the state and federal courts, as well as substantial appellate experience before the Kentucky and United States Supreme Courts.
In addition to his litigation practice, Guy has been active in the firm’s school law practice. He has many years of experience representing School Boards, finding solutions to state and federal issues involving teachers, students, and school system matters.
Guy is respected by his clients and peers for his professional acumen, and for the integrity, responsiveness, and wise counsel he brings to each client matter. He is known for his ability to resolve challenging, multi-faceted conflicts. Practicality and results-focused advocacy are the trademarks of his approach.
Professional Associations and Memberships
Guy is a member of the Fayette County and Kentucky Bar Associations. His extensive record of professional leadership includes board service for Fayette County Legal Aid, the Fayette County Bar Association, and Kentucky Defense Counsel, where he served as president. Guy is a member of the Kentucky Counsel of School Board Attorneys and a past associate member of the Kentucky Bar Association Character and Fitness Committee. Guy was selected by his peers to be included in the 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty of Insurance Law. He also is active in the Defense Research Institute and the St. Ives Journal Club. Guy is the recipient of the 2009 Fayette County Bar Association’s Citizen-Lawyer Award for distinguished civic activity and exemplary legal service to his clients, community and Bar.
Pro Bono and Community Leadership
Guy takes a generous and active leadership role in the community. He is a founding member, former chairman and former member of the Executive Committee of the Lexington Area Sports Authority which helps Lexington’s economy by bringing sporting activities to the area. He serves as a member of the Executive Committee and as Chairman of the Board of Christian Benevolent Outreach, Inc., a retirement community. He is currently a member and former chair of the Personnel Committee and an elder of the Southland Christian Church. He is a former board member of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Arboretum Committee, a founding member, current board member and fellow of the Fayette County Bar Foundation, a member of the Henry Clay Inns of Court, a UK fellow, and fellow of the Kentucky Bar Foundation.
