Notable Experience
Gordon has over 35 years experience in insurance coverage and business litigation, with a particular emphasis in construction cases, bad faith litigation against insurance companies, and insurance coverage for trucking companies. This experience includes hundreds of successful trials in state and federal courts, arguing over one hundred cases in appellate courts throughout Ohio, and frequently appearing in the Supreme Court of Ohio. For instance, he argued on behalf of successful appellants in Wyckoff Trucking, Inc. v. Marsh Bros. Trucking Serv., Inc., 58 Ohio St.3d 261, 569 N.E.2d 1049 (1991), where a reversal was obtained and previous Ohio law overruled, placing liability in trucking accidents irrebuttably on the I.C.C. carrier-lessee whose I.C.C. identification placard is displayed on the vehicle at the time of the accident, with resulting consequences for insurance coverage and indemnification.
Gordon’s trial experience provides him with evaluation and negotiation skills for bringing cases to a prompt and appropriate resolution through settlement and alternative dispute resolution. He is a mediator with the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio, Panel of Mediators. He was named a Top 100 “Super Lawyer” in the years 2006 through 2012. He was also named one of the “Best Lawyers in America” for the years 2006 through 2012.
Gordon has a long history promoting effective writing. In law school, Gordon was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Akron Law Review. He is the author of several law journal articles on civil procedure, including articles on summary judgment procedure, prejudgment interest for bad faith negotiation, and actions for declaratory judgment. He was a member of the Ohio Civil Practice Journal’s Editorial Advisory Board (Banks-Baldwin Law Publishing Co.), 1989-1992. He is a member since 1975 of Scribes: The American Society of Legal Writers, whose members edited or wrote a book, published two or more opinions as a judge, or published two or more articles in journals.
Gordon enjoys the diversity of experience from practicing in a wide ranging geographic area. He actively works in courts throughout all of western, central and southern Ohio, from the lake to the river, finding himself at home and rewarded by involvement in all of Ohio’s unique localities, with a concentration in the cities of Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati. He is a regional counsel, for southern and central Ohio, for several insurance companies in bad faith insurance cases.
