F. Sean Rooney, Esq.
F. Sean Rooney focuses his practice on the defense and trial of matters of medical malpractice and professional negligence involving physicians, hospitals and allied health professionals. He also handles matters involving the trial of premises liability, dram shop litigation, products liability and general negligence matters which concern serious and/or catastrophic injury and death. He has also represented physicians in investigation matters before the New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct.
Prior to joining Lewis Johs, Sean was a partner and trial attorney for a Long Island law firm handling matters of medical/hospital malpractice, professional negligence and general negligence. Sean was actively involved in the defense of a large community-based teaching hospital including the setting of indemnity reserves and risk management assessment. He has lectured to physicians and hospital staff regarding risk reduction strategies in several areas of patient care.
Sean’s previous non-legal career experience included teaching high school biology, chemistry and physical science, and he subsequently worked in sales and marketing of prescription and non-prescription medications for a major United States pharmaceutical manufacturer. Sean was admitted to practice in the States of New York and New Jersey in 1987. He was admitted to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in 1987 and the United States District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York in 1991. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers and the New York State Medical Defense Bar Association.
In 1987, Sean received his Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1977.
