He is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, graduated from the University of Lagos in 1982 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1983. He also holds a Master’s degree in law from the University of Lagos and a Masters in Business Administration from Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators London and he holds a Certificate in International Business Transactions and Commercial Law awarded by McGeorge School of Law University of the Pacific, California USA.
Until December 2011, Mr. Ehigiato was the Group Company Secretary and Legal Adviser of Crusader (Nigeria) PLC a position that he held since 1997. Within the aforementioned period and in his capacity as the Group Company Secretary and Legal Adviser , he rendered company secretarial and legal services to a number of companies in the group including, Crusader Life Insurance Limited, Crusader General Insurance Limited, Crusader Sterling Pensions Limited and Crusader Trustees Limited. He also assumed an additional role of the General Manager of Crusader Trustees Limited within the period.
Prior to joining Crusader (Nigeria) PLC in 1997, Mr. Ehigiato had worked with Rims Merchant Bank Limited from 1989 to 1997 and rose from the position of Assistant Manager (Legal) to the position of Company Secretary and Legal Adviser in 1994.
His main areas of specialization and research are in the fields of banking, insurance, mergers and acquisitions, secured credit transactions, project finance, capital and money market transactions financial derivatives, securitization, international business and commercial transactions, company secretarial services and administration of estate.
While in Rims Merchant Bank Limited, he was actively involved in the legal processes for the listing of the shares of Okomu Oil PLC, Ellah Lakes PLC and Public Offer of Union Bank PLC amongst others. Also while in Crusader, the company approached the Capital market on a number of occasions to raise funds by way of Rights Issue and Public Offer of shares as well as issuing convertible debenture.
He has publications in legal journals and some of his article are – The Legal Nature of Comfort Letters in Credit Transactions.
