Ms. Black brings tremendous experience in Trademark Law to the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Goodman Allen & Filetti, PLLC following a stellar 15- year career with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Ms. Black has a unique and in-depth understanding of the critical process involved in accurately analyzing, preparing, filing and prosecuting trademark applications and post registration documents from her years as a trademark examining attorney. As a Staff Attorney for the Trademark Commissioner, she not only participated in multiple revisions and additions to the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure, but played an integral role in writing the model federal rules interpreting the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement (Madrid Protocol) and ensuring its successful implementation in the United States. Prior to joining Goodman Allen & Filetti, while in private practice, Ms. Black developed a passion for educating and advising faith-based organizations in their understanding of the importance and complexity of Intellectual Property in both the creation and utilization of copyrighted works. She also counsels business owners on clearance, prosecution and enforcement rights, and advises writers on copyright registration, fair use and publishing agreements. In addition, Ms. Black is a frequent lecturer on trademark and copyright issues as well as in the area of social media law.
